NHSA Employment Opportunities

For more than 20 years, the North Hudson Sewerage Authority has partnered with Jacobs, a global, consulting, design, design-build, operations, and program management firm based in Dallas, to operate and maintain the facilities and systems that serve our customers. Unless otherwise noted, the positions listed below are for employment with Jacobs specifically to serve the NHSA. Operator-in-Training

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. This position typically holds or is working on first level wastewater treatment certification. An NJDEP S1 Operators License will need to be obtained within the first two years of employment with Jacobs.

Position requires learning and gaining skills involving the maintenance of equipment and servicing work in the plant; operating treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent; and operating valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes. Must monitor gauges, meters, and control panels; maintain shift log and records meter and gauge readings; collect samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses; assist in keeping maintenance records using a CMMS system, develop computer spreadsheets, and use Word and Excel; and ability to read and interpret construction plans, prints, specifications and Operations and Maintenance Manuals.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driverís license.

Preferred qualifications include basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices. Knowledge or previous experience in water or wastewater treatment and operations, SCADA, PLC and VFD systems. Applicable OSHA training including but not limited to Confined Space Entry and Lockout/Tagout procedures and having obtained the NJDEP S1 Operators License.
