Exploring Water Treatment: A Visit from the Scandinavian School of Jersey City
The Scandinavian School of Jersey City recently embarked on an educational journey to our plant at the North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA), delving into the intricate world of water treatment processes and environmental guardianship. Led by their enthusiastic teacher, Heather Solhagen, a group of 11 students aged 7-9 brought their inquisitive minds to the forefront, immersing themselves in a hands-on learning experience unlike any other.
Curiosity in Action
From the moment the students set foot in the NHSA facility, their curiosity ignited a spark of exploration. With eager minds and insightful questions, they eagerly delved into discussions about the origin of water, the complexities of Combined Sewer Systems, and the crucial role of wastewater treatment in maintaining clean water supplies.
Hands-On Learning
The tour provided the students with invaluable opportunities to witness firsthand the inner workings of wastewater treatment. They peered into the laboratory where water quality tests are conducted, gaining a deeper understanding of the science behind clean water. Additionally, NHSA set up a model infrastructure, allowing the students to interact with the system and grasp the journey water takes from source to treatment.
Insights and Inquiry
As they explored NHSA's facilities, the students gained profound insights into the environmental impact of human activity. Discussions on water conservation, pollution prevention, and innovative treatment technologies sparked their curiosity and underscored the importance of sustainable water management practices.
A Journey of Discovery
The visit from the Scandinavian School of Jersey City exemplified the transformative power of experiential learning. Through hands-on exploration and meaningful engagement, the students emerged not only with a deeper understanding of water treatment but also as empowered stewards of the environment.
